The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D. D. Kuupole has assured students of the Centre for Continuing Education that measures are being put in place to allow them to apply, register their courses and check results online.
He also added that the system would also offer the students opportunity to communicate directly with respective offices at the Centre on issues of mutual interest.
The Vice- Chancellor announced this at the second session of matriculation for distance education students pursuing business programmes and all education students from Ashanti and Eastern regions.Prof. Kuupole indicated that the use of technology in distance education is very vital and for that reason a fibre optic cable has been extended to the centre. This is aimed at connecting all regional capitals to the Centre through an e-learning platform, for teaching and learning purposes.
Prof. Kuupole pointed out that management of the University of Cape Coast has decided to decentralize the organisation of matriculation ceremony for its distance education students as from the next academic year. “Management feels the need to decentralize the ceremony into zones across the country to lessen the hardship of traveling long distances to Cape Coast”. The Vice-Chancellor said even though some students may want to come to campus to participate in the ceremony however, “circumstances may not permit us to continue this way”.
He appealed to the students to exhibit discipline and a high sense of maturity in tackling all grievances by dialoguing with management for redress. “Kindly use appropriate means to within regulations of the university to communicate their concerns and not to resort to anonymous letter writing and press conferences”, he advised.
Prof. Kuupole assured the students that the university’s doors were widely open and will not relent on their efforts in providing a peaceful academic environment that will enable them achieve the ultimate goal of academic excellence.
In all, 7,979 males and 6,484 females, representing 55.2% and 44.8% respectively were admitted to pursue various programmes in the 2013/2014 academic year through distance learning.
